WORLD ROTARY DAY IS FEBRUARY 23!
FROM FRED HEITMAN, DISTRICT POLIOPLUS CHAIR: As you are aware World Rotary Day is February 23, 2012. Hard to believe all that Rotarians like you have accomplished in 107 years! All of the fund raising projects that we have organized have certainly changed the lives of many generations of people throughout the world. For this we all should be proud.
In District 6780 there are two events on Saturday February 25th of which I am aware to raise money for the eradication of polio. You are invited to participate in either one or both of these. In fact, if you participate in both I will give you a very special prize!
The Rotary Club of Oak Ridge is sponsoring their 4th Annual Polio Event. PDG Carl Chinnery of Kansas City will be the featured speaker. This event will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Doubletree Hotel in Oak Ridge. Carl will be talking about growing up with four siblings who were afflicted by polio. He will weave this message in with references to Dr. Suess. He also will have just returned from an NID in India. He is an excellent speaker and his remarks will be powerful. I am sure that you certainly will enjoy his remarks. There will be heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar as we are gathering as well as live music from a great local band. Also there will be an auction for a weekend in a cabin in the Smokies as well as a bottle of Sergeant's Select. Tickets are only $40 and can be reserved by calling Fred Heitman (865-548-3474) or Scot Macilveen (865-482-1001).
In the morning of February 25th you can help Rotary set a world record! Yes you can be part of the ROTARY GLOBAL SWIMARATHON. The Rotary Club of Pigeon Forge has reserved the pool and all participants will be part of a world-wide effort to set the record. Swimming must occur between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. All swimmers around the world are to be in the water at the same time. If you can not make it to Pigeon Forge but would like to organize a swim at this date and time then contact Rob Ogle (rogle@css1.net or 865-429-7373).
All money from both of these events will go to eradicate polio from the face of the earth, and remember if you participate in both I have a very special prize for you. Thank you for all of your efforts to eradicate polio!
